Blog Entry #1 - The Truth

Taylor Schraeder

Starting off, it was hard to choose just one hobby for this blog post. The topic that kept coming to my mind that I participate in frequently is, going to the gym. I am by no means a powerlifter or anything like that, I just like to workout to feel strong, healthy and clear minded. That being said, I enjoy cardio, weight lifting and HIIT workouts (not running).

For the longest time, I struggled feeling anxious and eventually the gym became the one place where I knew I would feel better after going to. I suggest exercising for everyone that is able, for many many reasons.

The reason I have stated previously stated the impact of exercise on mental health, but not just mine. It is scientifically proven that exercising increases your mood, energy, sleep, and several other things. This Mayo Clinic website further explains the benefit of exercise; mayoclinic.org/healthy

Going off of the Mayo Clinic link, I am going to bullet point some of the things  author has outlined, that I personally have proven to be true.

- Exercise combats health conditions and diseases; Depression, anxiety, high blood pressure; all applied to me. I cannot stress enough, the benefits exercise had on these issues.

- Exercise improves mood, exercise boots energy, exercise promotes better sleep; I'm sorry, but who doesn't want all of these?!

Another website I found to be helpful is; www.cdc.gov/physical-activity-basics. This website went in depth a bit more than the Mayo website, however discussing a lot of the same mentioned benefits and the importance of them. The CDC website links this photo below, to a website describing "CDC's national initiative to help people be more physically active."

In conclusion, I noticed my energy improved, I am more productive, feel better about the way I look, function better day to day and the list goes on. What I like to tell everyone is, it is a privilege to move your body. It is a privilege, to be able to help yourself feel good in all aspects of life, while doing it in a healthy manner. For some, this can feel daunting, farfetched, unrealistic, etc. However, I (and the endless about of websites and research) are here to tell you, you can do it. The benefits outweigh any of the cons you may be contemplating or worrying about. You will thank yourself for taking care of your body while you can, your body will thank you too. I would also recommend looking at how exercising helps the longevity of your bones and joints too, it's VERY interesting. I could go on and on and on, but moral of the story, I believe in you; and so does your future self.

  1. Hi Taylor! I really enjoyed your post. I love how you explained the impact exercise has on both mental and physical health, and how you tied it to feeling stronger, more energized, and clear-minded. Your point about it being a privilege to move our bodies really stood out—it’s such a thoughtful reminder of how taking care of ourselves can have a huge impact on daily life.
